The Body Shop Update

Writer's picture: Free From MLMFree From MLM

If you've been following my blog, you may remember my post on 6 January 2022 about The Body Shop

Here's an update on the goings on with The Body Shop and it's bad news for The Body Shop at Home reps, but also some not so good news about The Body Shop as a whole.

The Body Shop at Home was the MLM arm of The Body Shop, that unethical business I wrote about two years ago. Anita Roddick herself opened the MLM arm in 1994, in 2008 they closed the USA side only for its reopening in 2020 and then second closure in February 2022. When that happened I looked into the 'investor relations' section of Natura&Co, the then owner of The Body Shop. As previously explained, they're a Brazilian MLM conglomerate who also own Avon. The books showed that both Avon and The Body Shop were making a loss and the company showed signs of trying to minimise losses. The closure of the USA side of the MLM made sense.

In November 2023 news came out that The Body Shop was sold to a European investment group called Aurelius, bought The Body Shop for £207million but in February 2024 admitted it could not revive its fortunes and placed the UK arm into administration. It owed more than £276m to creditors at the time.

The Body Shop International Ltd announced it entered administration on 13 February 2024.
