When MLMs get desperate to reach their own ‘targets’ and desperately need to sell and recruit more, they go into overdrive. Let’s have a look at how they work their way through the desperate times…

Mary Kay U.K. is desperate!
They’re stepping things up. With all their “Once you’re out, you’re out” bravado, they neglected to take me off their text service, so I’ve continued to receive their manipulative texts.
Where consultants normally received maybe one or two texts a month, when they’re desperate they start love bombing their consultants with multiple messages to get them to part it’s their money.
In August alone they’ve texted their consultants four times to beg them for more orders (sales) with ‘selling challenges’, ‘summer sales’ and ‘promotional flyers’ and that was only the first half of the month!
Literally asking their reps to sell more lipsticks and announcing sales as well as freebies to lure people to sign up today!

It smells of desperation, but I Remember how it felt when you receive these messages whilst you’re indoctrinated by the cult. It was excitement, it created a buzz, there were repeats of the same messages by ‘uplines’ and ‘downlines’ and across all channels.
The last had this linked to it…

They’re clearly on a desperate recruitment drive. Promising every consultant who signs up one or more new team members also get the ‘freebie’.
The hidden cost for those New Consultants to sign up is obviously not exposed. But let’s have a look at this.
Consultants only receive the freebie after they place a £200 qualifying order in their first 30 days after they sign up and that means that they have to pay to sign up and then pay for £200 worth of products on top in order to receive this ‘free bundle’.
Yup, they now are trying to get people to join up and part with £248 of their money for a
F R E E roll up bag with 2 products that don’t sell — that’s why they’re giving it away for free!
Mary Kay are also probably going to bring out a new design roll up bag, because that’s what they do every few years as it encourages Consultants to spend more money with them, so the U.K. warehouse is having to off-load their old inventory, so they’re “giving it away for free”.
THAT’S NOT REALLY FREE THOUGH!!!
The roll up bag retails for £19, considering consultants get 30-40% discount depending on how big an order they place, the cost to consultants is £13.30 or £11.40
Tone Correcting Serum retails at £29, so £20.30 or £17.40 to consultants.
Even Complexion Mask RRP £17.50, so £12.25 or £10.50 to consultants.
That’s total £45.85 or £39.30 of ‘Freebies’ in terms of what the cost to consultants would be.
Noting that it probably costs hardly anything to Mary Kay as they buy in bulk and probably pay only pennies for these items.
So for New Consultants to ‘earn’ this ‘freebie’ they have to spend:
a) £99 for the Welcome Kit to sign up as a New Consultant.
b) place a minimum £200 retail order, this gives them 30% discount and ‘Active’ status. So they pay £140 plus P&P (from memory at this level it’s £9)
So actually the total spent is £248 to get £45.85 worth of products that won’t go anywhere.
BIG NOTE:
If you read the fine print at the bottom… ‘Rewards’ will be shipped with the qualifying order for a New Consultant, so they might get it straight away when they’ve hit that magical £200 retail order. However… existing consultants who sign up a new consultant only receive their ‘Rewards’ with a subsequent order after 10 October, so the consultants still have to place a minimum £200 order when they sign up a new consultant to receive this ‘freebie’ so just signing up a new team member isn’t enough, they still have to Pay to Play!
How do they expect that people don’t see through this…?
But what about those Summer Sales?
Oh and if you’re looking on the Mary Kay U.K. website for those Summer Sales… they’re not there!
I can’t access those promotional flyers either as they are consultants only access, you have to log in to the consultants back office to get to the Summer Sales, that means exactly what you think it does: the sales are for consultants only.
The biggest proof that the consultants are the customers and the company doesn’t care about anyone who isn’t a consultant already.
In fact, for anyone to order on the Mary Kay U.K. website, you have to select a consultant, so that consultant has to buy your products from the company and you are also required to sign up to the Mary Kay U.K. website, that way they have your details and they can proceed to target you with messages to become a consultant. You’re then linked to the consultant you buy from and as such they’re going to be the one to recruit you. You’ll forever be linked to that first consultant and recruiter.
The worst part is that you won’t see these summer sales on the website and consultants may not always pass the savings on to you as their customers, which means a bigger profit for the consultants.
