MLM: The American Dream Made Nightmare

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

One of the amazing resources I often quote is a blog by my friend David Brear:

He is a very eloquent author and has been investigating and exposing the MLM Commercial Cult phenomenon since the 1990s, publishing as guest writer on other blogs, including Corporate Frauds Watch and publisher of ‘The Universal Identifying Characteristics of a Cult’, which can now be read online at Cult Characteristics.

In 2012 he started writing this blog. He paints a picture of MLMs, Pyramid Schemes, Ponzi Schemes, Fraud, Cults, Politics, Wall Street, Mainstream Media and Religions.

His connection with MLMs is via his family. His brother was in Amway and by association, his mother fell victim to Amway as well, although she never joined herself, she believed MLMs like Amway couldn’t possibly a fraud. David lost contact with both his brother and mother (before she passed away) and also suffered personal financial loss as a result of his brother’s involvement with Amway. It will therefore be no surprise that you will find a lot of information on this blog about Amway.

Considering Amway is basically the OG MLM, reading this blog - and starting with the first post of February 2012 - gives you a very good background and understanding of MLMs, their origin and why they are what they are and why it’s so hard to defeat them. Of course David also reports on other MLM rackets and keeps up to date with what is happening in the MLM world today. He has never received any challenge to the accuracy of his research and analysis.

David is a close associate and friends with Robert FitzPatrick, and his analysis is broadly in line with the views of people behind Pyramid Scheme Alert, people like Tracy Coenen, Douglas M. Brooks, Esq., William W Keep, Ph.D. and others.

This post is purely to direct you to David’s blog, because of the enormous resources. Please have a browse around and if you’re curious look up his references to George Orwell, a very interesting angle on MLMs.
